German football coach Manfred Höner spent most of his career working in Africa with head roles with the Nigerian and Malawian teams. From 1987 to 1988 Höner was the manager of the Nigerian football team, leading them to the final of the 1988 Africia Cup of Nations, where they lost to Camerron. He coached Nigeria when they competed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics but they lost all three of their group games and were eliminated from the tournament.
In 1991 Höner managed the German domestic team Eintracht Trier before returning to Africa in 1996 to work with youth teams in Malawi. Care of bilateral relationships with Germany and Malawi, he oversaw young talent helping the Malawi under-18 national team win the Dana Cup in Denmark during a European tour of 1997. With the under-20 Malawian team Höner led them to a bronze medal in a youth championship tournament in Botswana. Following his work in Malawi Höner brokered a transfer to work at FC Cologne in Germany before becoming the technical director of the Qatar Football Association in 2004.
