After playing for several football clubs in Algeria’s domestic leagues Belaid Lacarne became a referee. Lacarne was appointed as a FIFA international referee in 1978 with his first major tournament coming two years later when he officiated at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. The following year he refereed the final of the Algerian Cup in Sidi Bel Abbès before being named as one of the officials for the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain. He worked as the linesman in five matches, as well as the referee for the group stage encounter between Argentina and Hungary. Lacarne later served on the Confederation of African Football committee in 2002 and as a member of the refereeing committee for the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations.
