Biography

Bruno de Marchi started refereeing in 1943, but did not make his Serie B début until 1955. Two years later, he took charge of the game between Internazionale and Sampdoria, his first in Serie A. He went on to officiate in 176 top flight games over the next 13 years. He also refereed 101 Serie B matches. De Marchi won the Florindo Longagnani Award in 1959 for being the best novice referee in Serie A, and in 1965, collected the Giovanni Mauro Award as Best Referee of the Year.

Despite not being appointed a FIFA international referee until 1963, de Marchi had already appeared as a linesman at the 1960 Roma Olympics. He was on the FIFA list for seven years, and took charge of several leading European club matches, including the 1964 European Cup tie between Red Star Beograd and Glasgow Rangers, and the Partizan Beograd-Werder Bremen match the following year.
