Biography

Eric Denis was a highly respected international hockey umpire from Belgium who officiated at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He also officiated at the 1998 FIH World Cup in Utrecht. After those appearances he became a mentor and trained the next generation of umpires in Belgium and Europe, heading the Umpire Mentor Programme (UMP).

As a career Denis was a pilot, starting out with the Belgian Air Force. He later became a pilot for the Belgian Royal Family and was a base captain for Norwegian Airlines, based out of Barcelona. Sadly, in 2020 he contracted COVID-19 and died from the effects of the coronavirus.
