Biography

Paul Nicholas was a pioneering freestyle skiing judge who spent 35 years of his life dedicated to the sport. Nicholas was pivotal in the development and implementation of judging frameworks as well as authoring the first judges book to be used by the International Ski Federation (FIS) in competition. As a judge Nicholas officiated at World Cups and the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics. He also helped to get freestyle skiing onto the Olympic programme.

Nicholas retired from judging in 2006 but continued to work as a senior account executive for a publishing firm in Salt Lake City. In 2020 he was nominated to be inducted into the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame.
