Biography

Pietro “Piero” Bonetto officiated in 146 Serie A matches from 1954, until bowing out after a controversial goalless draw between A. C. Milan and Atalanta B on 30 September 1962. Also, in his final year, he took charge of the Italian Cup final between Napoli and Spal Ferrara. Bonetto won the Giovanni Mauro Award as Best Referee of the Year in 1961. A FIFA international referee from 1957, he was in control of 31 international club and country matches. He officiated at just one Olympic match when he was a linesman to Concetto Lo Bello in the final between Yugoslavia and Denmark at Roma in 1960.
