Biography

At the 1972 München Olympics the East German volleyball team, including Wolfgang Maibohm, only lost to Japan 3-1 in the final and won the silver medal. At the 1974 Mexico Worlds the team finished fourth, and at the 1975 Europeans at Yugoslavia East Germany placed seventh. At the 1978 Worlds the team was eliminated early and finished ninth.

Domestically, Maibohm played with SC Traktor Schwerin. He helped them to win the East German title in 1977. He later worked as a graduated sports teacher and volleyball coach with SC Traktor Schwerin, after re-unification with renamed Schweriner SC.
