Biography

German volleyball player Sylvia Roll was on the squad that placed eighth at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She also participated in the Olympic tournament at Sydney in 2000 and placed sixth. In total, she won 253 international caps.

At club level, Roll played in Germany with Schweriner SC (1989-98, 2004-07 and 2009-10), in Brazil with MRV Minas (1998-99), in Italy with Medinex Reggio Calabria (1999-2000), and Monte Schiavo Jesi (2000-04), and then in Turkey with Vakifbank Ankara (2007-08). In 1995, 1998, 2006, and 2009 Roll helped Schwerin win the German national title and in 1990 and 2006-07 the German cup. She was named Volleyball Player of the Year in Germany in 1996 and 1997. Roll later turned to coaching.
