Yordan Mitkov had the following podium finishes at major championships: 1st in the 1976 Olympics Middleweight class (335.0 kg); 2nd in the 1975 World Championships Middleweight class (332.5 kg); 1st in the 1976 World Championships Middleweight class (335.0 kg); 2nd in the 1975 European Championships Middleweight class (332.5 kg); 3rd in the 1976 European Championships Middleweight class (330.0 kg); 1st in the 1979 European Championships Middleweight class (345.0 kg). He set four middleweight world records from 1976-80 – one in the snatch, two in the clean & jerk, and one in the total.
