Biography

Competing his entire career as lightweight, Juhani Salakka was Finnish champion from 1976-80 and Nordic Champion in 1975, 1977-79 and 1982. During his career, Salakka competed at the 1980 Olympics, the 1977 and 1979 World Championships, and the 1975-1978 and 1980 European Championships, his best finishes being ninth at the 1979 Worlds and 1980 Europeans and 10th at the 1980 Olympics. From 1975-1991 Salakka worked as secretary-general of the Finnish Weightlifting Federation and later worked as a fitness coach, becoming one of the main promoters of broomstick workout in Finland.
