Biography

East German weightlifter Günter Schliwka won two bronze medals at both the 1977 Europeans and Worlds. He then qualified for the 1980 Moskva Olympics but did not finish the middleweight competition as he had no valid lift in clean & jerk. Schliwka retired shortly after the Games and became a weightlifting coach. He was a caretaker at several schools by profession.
