A member of the La Salle Green Archers, Eddie Decena won the Philippines’s NCAA championships in 1947 and was voted the season’s Most Valuable Player. This earned him a spot on the national team for the 1948 Olympics. In an exhibition match against the Oakland Bittners following the Games, Decena sustained a knee injury and was forced to retire. He later became an accountant and died of prostate cancer at age 76.
