Biography

Sweden’s Göran Andersson had success both on and off the water, first as a champion sailor, before becoming one of the leading sailmakers in the world. Andersson represented Marstrands SS when he was selected to compete in the Finn class at the 1968 Roma Olympics. His experience at the Games, however, was disappointing after failing to finish in the first of seven races, with Andersson ultimately placing 28th out of the 35 sailors that took part. Following the Olympics he then switched to the OK class, winning back-to-back world championships in 1965 and 1966. After his competitive sailing career Andersson worked as a sailmaker, becoming one of the world’s leading boatbuilders of his day. In 2020 he was inducted into the Swedish Sailing Federation’s Hall of Fame.
