Giulio De Stefano began sailing when he was young at his local club in Italy and won national titles and sailing at national and international regattas. De Stefano sailed in the Dragon class at his home Olympics in Roma in 1960. Together with Antonio Cosentino and Antonio Ciciliano the crew won the bronze medal, finishing behind the boats from Argentina and Greece.
