Biography

Kees Douze started sailing only as an adult, but quickly became good at it. He became the top Dutch Finn sailor, and represented the Netherlands in this class at the 1972 Olympics. His result (23rd) was disappointing, partly because he was suffering from hemorrhoids. He continued to sail in the Finn, Star, Pampus and other classes. His best World Championships result was 13th, in the 1975 World Finn Championships. He later took to sailing in the 12 feet class, where he won the Dutch national title in 1993, 1995, 1996 and 1999 together with Jaap van Spengen. His son, Paul, also became a national level Finn sailor.
