Biography

Wolfgang Konrad was Austrian champion in cross country-short (1980, 1985, 1988), cross country-long (1979), 3×1,000 metres relay (1980), and 3,000 metres steeplechase (1978-1980, 1982, 1985-86). He was then selected for the steeplechase at the 1980 Moskva (Moscow) Olympics, but failed to reach the final.

Konrad began organising events during his time as an active athlete. In 1983, he led his first competition at the St. Nicholas Run in Mödling. As a result, he was active in the organisation in several road races, triathlons, and mountain bike races. In 1988, he organised the first edition of the Austrian Women’s Run. In 1989, Konrad took over the leadership of the Wien (Vienna) City Marathon, until his retirement at the beginning of 2024.
