Biography

Robert Nemeth was born in Sweden as both his parents work there at that time. He was a middle-distance runner who ran the 1,500 metres at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. Nemeth won 22 Austrian titles during his career, in the 800 metres (1978, 1981-82), 1,500 metres (1981-1985), 10,000 metres (1986-87), cross-country short-course (1981-82, 1984, 1987), and 3 x 1,000 relay (1976-1979, 1981-1984). He was also a 28-time champion in Niederösterreich (Lower Austria). Nemeth was fourth in the 1,500 at the 1982 European Championships, and his major invitational victory came at the 1981 Zürich Letzigrund. He ran at the European Indoors in 1981-82 and 1984-85, placing sixth in the 1,500 in 1985, and running the 3,000 metres the other years, with a best finish of fourth in 1982. As of 2016, he still held Austrian records for the mile (3:52.42 in 1981) and the 2,000 metres (4:59.56 in 1984).
