Edi Schönecker

Austrian sprinter Edi Schönecker was eliminated in the heats of the 100 and 200 meters at the 1908 London Olympics. He also played football with SK Rapid Wien (Vienna), and won one Austrian international cap in 1904. His brother Dionys was also a footballer and later coached SK Rapid Wien (Vienna) to win 12 national championships.

Edi Schönecker later became well-known as an architect who built sport stadiums like Stadium Pfarrwiese, which was the home of SK Rapid Wien (Vienna) until 1981. He was also responsible for the construction of the 90,000-seater Hohe Warte Stadium, the home of Austria’s oldest football club 1. Wien (Vienna) FC, and is still in use. It was one of the biggest football stadiums in Europe when it was built.
