Biography

Desiré Van Remortel was a Belgian long-distance runner who represented CS Etterbeek. At the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics the marathon was contested over a course measuring 42.75 km, the longest in Olympic history, and before the distance was standardized at 42.195 km the following year. Van Remortel ran in the marathon in Antwerpen but did not finish the race.
