Biography

At the University of Indiana, Scott May played on two of the greatest collegiate teams ever in 1975 and 1976, although only the 1976 team succeeded in winning the NCAA championship. May was acknowledged to be the leader of that team, and later in 1976, he was the backbone of the U.S. Olympic team, as well. A great pro career was expected of the 6-7 (2.00) forward, but it was not to be, mainly because injuries made him less effective in the pros. May never became the dominant force he was in college, although he played for parts of seven seasons, mostly with Chicago. In the middle of the 1982-83 season, May was released by the Detroit Pistons, and he retired to devote full time to a real estate business he had established for himself. His son, Sean May, later starred at the University of North Carolina and in the NBA.
