A small delegation of track and field athletes represented Colombia at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, making the month-long journey across the Atlantic Ocean onboard a German tourist boat. One of their contingent was Hernando Navarrete, who was one of the best long-distance runners in the country at the time. Navarrete was selected to run in the 5,000 metres in Berlin but did not advance from the heats. Compatriot Hugo Acosta was also scheduled to run in the same race, but he got sick on the voyage to Europe and did not start.
Personal Best: 5000 – unknown.
