Biography

Hailing from Orís in Catalonia José Culí was a Spanish track and field athlete who specialised in the pole vault. Culí was a six-time champion of Spain in the event (1926–30, 1932), in addition to being a seven-time Catalonian champion (1926–30, 1932, 1934). From 1925 to 1929 he set more than 20 records in Catalonia along with several national records. At the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics he finished in joint-tenth place in the pole vault with a best clearance of 3.50 metres. Culí was also the champion of Catalonia in the long jump in 1929.
