Biography

Verner Toivonen was a Finnish track and field athlete who competed in long-distance races. Toivonen specialised in the 3,000 metres steeplechase and won two national titles (1933, 1935), along with three silver medals (1930, 1931, 1934). He competed in the event at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics where he finished ninth. Toivonen also won silver in the 5,000 metres at the Finnish championships in 1933.
