Biography

Évelyne Cloupet was born in the southern French commune of Foix in 1900, close to the border with Spain and Andorra, before moving to Paris after the end of World War I. In the capital Cloupet discovered her love for sport, training with other women in the city. At the 1926 national championships she won gold in both the standing long jump and the standing high jump, with her results ultimately earning her a place on the French athletics team for the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. At the Games she was part of the first French women’s athletics team to compete at the Olympics, with her finishing 14th in the high jump. Two years later Cloupet won her third national title when she won the triathlon, an event that was made up of the 100 metres, high jump, and javelin. In addition to athletics she also spent time making music and painting. After the conclusion of World War II Cloupet returned to Foix, where she spent the rest of her life.
