At the French Championships, Julien Boullery was more successful in the long jump than in the sprint. In 1907, he won silver in the long jump and bronze in the standing long jump at the French championships. His best results on the track were fourth places in 1907 (100 m) and 1913 (200 m) but he won the 100 m title at the 1909 French military championships. Equalizing the French record of 10.8 in the 100 m dash in 1911, however, brought him to seventh place in the world ranking. At the 1912 Olympic Games, he did not advance to the second round placing third behind the heavy favourite Howard Drew from the United States and the German Erwin Kern.
Boullery married his wife Berthe Marie (née Taunel) in 1913 and was soon after mobilised, serving in World War I in the infantry and artillery. As a private, he was appointed telephone operator in 1917 and was seriously wounded in April 1918 under heavy bombardment. This left him with a disability in one hand. Boullery was awarded the Croix de Guerre and the Military Medal.
He worked as a shoemaker. A gymnasium and sports complex was named after him in his hometown of Couëron.
Personal Best: 100 – 10.8 (1911).
