Biography

J. R. Reid was a star center in college at the University of North Carolina, where he was a first team All-American in 1988. In 1989 he was drafted by Charlotte Hornets in the first round of the NBA draft, chosen fifth overall. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie team in 1990. Reid played mostly in the NBA through 2001, also playing with the San Antonio Spurs, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Cleveland Cavaliers. In 1996-97 he spent a year overseas playing with Paris Basket Racing in France. He finished his professional playing career back in Europe, first with Strasbourg from 2001-02, and then with Baloncesto León in Spain in 2002-03. Reid returned to basketball in 2011 as an assistant college coach, but has also done some broadcasting of televised games.
