Biography

A left halfback, Venancio Bartibas was powerful and disruptive on an athletic level and was formidable in the air, being over 1.90 tall. He was part of the squad that won the gold medal at the 1928 Olympics, but he never took the field. Previously, he was called up for the 1927 Campeonato Sudamericano de Football, but it was once again as a substitute.

His career took place almost entirely in the Central Espanol club with which he made his début in 1926, except for a brief experience in the Nacional de Montevideo. This team provided for the funeral costs of his brother Juan Leòn, who died very young; Venancio was poor and his job as an electrician did not allow him to pay for the burial. He ended his career in 1938 and continued to work as an electrician.
