Biography

Harry Boland was one of three Transport FC footballers selected for the Ireland squad at the 1948 London Olympics, along with Bill Brennan and Peter McDonald. McDonald was the only one of the three to play in the Republic’s only match of the tournament, however, a 3-1 defeat by Netherlands in a qualifying game.

Based at Bray, near Dublin, Transport FC was the works team of the Irish Transport System and were invited to join the League of Ireland when it was extended to ten teams in 1948/49. Although Boland was a reserve team player, he did play occasionally for Transport in their debut season in the League as they finished a creditable fifth.
