Biography

Béla Révész started playing in the youth team of Remény FC and joined the football section of the Hungarian Swimming Association (MÚE) in 1903 with the whole team. Only one year later he transferred to MTK, where he played left defense until 1917. In this period, he played in 146 league games, scoring 12 goals. With him on the team MTK won four Hungarian championships (1904, 1908, 1914, 1917), was four times runner-up in (1910-13), and won four Hungarian cups (1910, 1911, 1912, 1914). He was named “MTK’s Eternal Champion”.

Révész won eight caps between 1909 and 1915. He was an unused reserve for the 1912 Olympic Games, where the Hungarian team placed fifth as winner of the consolation round.

After World War I, Révész became a referee and took up a coaching career a few years later. He worked in Hungary, Romania, Italy, and Germany. His first assignment as a coach was with the Italian club US Alessandria in 1923, where he returned in 1930. In Germany, he coached Holstein Kiel for two years (1924-26) leading them to the North German championship and into the semi-final of the German championship in 1926. He then returned to Hungary and worked for Sabaria Labdarúgók Szövetkezete (now Szombathelyi AK). Subsequently, he coached MTK to another Hungarian championship in 1929. After another three years in Italy, Révész was employed to teach practical football at a coaching school in Rome. A cerebral haemorrhage forced him to retire. Back in Hungary he had a final assignment with III. Kerületi FC in Budapest.

In 1918, Révész married Piroska Schneider, the daughter of the manager of the clubhouse restaurant of MTK in Budapest. He was initially educated as a factory clerk.
