Biography

Uwe Schmitt, a 400 hurdler, also ran the 4x400 relay at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games but was eliminated in the semi-finals of both the 4x400 and 400 hurdles. In 1987 he did not qualify for the second round of the 400 hurdles at the Worlds. Schmitt was overshadowed throughout his career by his teammate, Harald Schmid. In 1995, only 34-years-old, Uwe Schmitt committed suicide by taking poison.

Personal Bests: 400 – 45.9 (1984); 400H – 49.39 (1985).
