Biography

Basketball player Uwe Sauer represented West Germany at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, finishing eighth. In total, he won 42 international caps. Domestically, he played with SSC Karlsruhe (1971-78), EK Karlsruhe-Berghausen (1978-81), USC Heidelberg (1981-84), BSC Saturn Köln (1986-88), Steiner Bayreuth (1988-89), Brandt Hagen (1989-92) and SSV Ulm 1846 (1992-97). From 1984-86 he played with Santa Clara University in the United States.

Sauer later studied sports and became a basketball coach with several stints in the 1. and 2. Bundesliga in Germany. He also became known as a sculptor, mainly using wooden materials for his figures and statues.
