Biography

Endre Madarász was one of the most successful Hungarian discus throwers between the two world wars. He participated in two Olympics (1932 and 1936). Madarász had his best result in Los Angeles, where he placed 6th. Additionally he was two-time Hungarian (1936 and 1937) and English AAA champion (1931 and 1933) and competed 16 times for the national team. He fought in the second World War, where he was captured and later, as a partisan, fought for the liberation of Hungary. After the war, he held several positions as a sports functionary. From 1947 he was the Secretary General of the National Sports Committee, and from 1951 he was the chairman of the Budapest Physical Education and Sports Committee. Madarász worked for many years as the chairman of Bp. Honvéd SE. The last years of his active life were spent in the Hungarian Physical Education and Sports Association. Even as an old man, already seriously ill, he did a lot for the Hungarian sports movement.
