Paddy Fahey

Paddy Fahey grew up in an athletic family, with four brothers who all became distinguished runners in Ireland, with the best known of his brothers being Jerry Fahey, who won the Irish 10-mile title in 1938-39. Paddy Fahey was known for running barefoot. He first competed for Hollyford AC and joined Coolcroo AC in 1947. In June 1948, shortly before the London Olympics, he won the Irish 3-mile title in Dublin. He won the Irish cross-country title in 1949 and 1951, and competed in the International Cross-Country Championships in 1948-51, with his best finish being 19th in 1949, but he helped the Irish to third place in the team event. Fahey bought a farm in Graigue, Moycarkey in 1958 and spent his life as a farmer.
