Biography

Giannina Marchini was an Italian track and field athlete who represented the Giglio Rosso club in Firenze. Marchini ran in multiple disciplines, including sprints, middle-distance races, and cross-country events. She won her first medal at the Italian championships in 1927 with bronze in the cross-country race, before winning gold in 1928 in the 400 metres. Her performances earned her a place on the Italian team for the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics where she ran in the 800 metres and the 4 × 100 metres relay, finishing sixth in the latter. In 1929 Marchini won another cross-country title along with silver in the 400 metres.
