Biography

Danilo Innocenti was the first Italian pole vaulter to clear 4.00 metres, back when vaulting poles were made of bamboo. He cleared this height at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where he tied for sixth with 11 other vaulters. Innocenti set his first Italian record in Bologna on 18 September 1927 with 3.63, and would improve it 10 times, leaving it at 4.01 set in a meeting in Roma on 25 October 1936. Innocenti also competed at the 1934 European Championships, placing sixth. He won 10 Italian titles – 1927-28, and 1930-37, and earned 27 international caps from 1927-38.
