Biography

Ichiro Kaga was the illegitimate son of a member of the House of Representatives in Japan and took part in the 1920 Olympics while studying at Meiji University. The following year he won the 200 m at the national championships with a time of 23.6 and he won bronze medals at the Far Eastern Games in the 100 and 200 metres.

In 1922, he graduated from the university’s business department and joined the Joban Life Insurance Company. Kaga attended the 1932 Olympics as an unofficial coach and the 1936 Olympics as an official coach for the Japanese athletics team.
