Biography

Heinz Hubler of Gymnastische Gesellschaft Bern (GGB) was active domestically in junior level athletics competitions in the mid-1940s, but first came to prominence on the national scene after winning the 1,500 metres race at the Swiss National Athletics Championships in Basel held in July 1948. This led to Hubler being named to the Swiss Olympic team, which was to compete at the upcoming games to be held in London. He was unfortunately not as successful there, finishing eighth in his preliminary heat.

Hubler continued to participate in athletics competitions in the following years, opting for the shorter 400 metres distance, but did not win another championship title. He also competed in cross-country events and intra-university events while attending the University of Bern in the early 1950s where he studied medicine and dentistry.

Personal Best: 1500 – 4:03.0 (1948).
