Biography

Swiss track and field athlete Oskar Leupi joined the LCZ club in 1960 where he soon became one of their best long-distance runners. During his career Leupi became the national champion in cross-country running, the 10,000 metres, and the marathon. With no personal trainers he came up with his own performance techniques, which included developing his own running shoes. He trained hard for the marathon, including travelling to Germany where he raced alongside their long-distance athletes. His hard work paid off, with Leupi earning a spot on the Swiss Olympic team for the 1964 Tokyo Games, finishing 41st in his favoured event. He was also a keen mountaineer and climbed several peaks in the Alps including the Piz Bernina and the Matterhorn.

Personal Best: Mar – 2-26:41 (1964).
