Biography

Although his main event was the triple jump Ivar Sahlin also enjoyed success in the high jump and the long jump. Sahlin won his first medal at the Swedish athletics championships in 1913 with a silver in the triple jump. Two years later he went one better to win gold in the event along with silver in both the high jump and long jump. With his win in 1915 he set a national triple jump record of 14.77 metres that stood until Folke Jansson jumped 14.92 metres in 1918.

Sahlin competed in the triple jump at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics where he narrowly missed out on a medal after finishing fourth, just ten centimetres behind compatriot Erik Almlöf. He returned to the Olympics four years later for the 1924 Paris Games, this time finishing eighth in the triple jump and tenth in the high jump.
