Biography

Trish King competed in the high jump at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. She made the US team by placing second at the US Olympic Trials. King also competed in the heptathlon Olympic Trials, placing seventh. She had finished sixth at the 1986 TAC Meet in the heptathlon. She made the Olympic high jump squad with a PR of 1.96 (6-5), which was a bit of a shock since she had never before placed at the TAC Meet or, while competing for the University of Oregon, at the NCAA Meet, and had entered the 1988 Olympics Trials with a PR of only 1.86 (6-1¼).

King later married Pat Porter, a US Olympic distance runner whose best event, cross-country, was no longer on the Olympic Program. She continued to compete in masters’ events, setting age group records for W40, a world record, and W45, an American record. In 2012, Pat Porter and their son were flying in a private plane when it crashed in Sedona, Arizona, killing all on board.

Personal Best: HJ – 1.96 (1988).
