Biography

After winning the AAU and Final Trials that were held as a combined meet in 1932, Ruth Osborn led the Olympic competition until Lillian Copeland’s final throw of 133-2 (40.59) deprived her of the gold medal. Osborn threw 131-7 (40.10) to take second, short of her AAU/FinaI Trials mark, and personal best, of 133-0¾ (40.56). She later won another AAU title in 1933. She was also a shot putter and javelin thrower like Copeland. In her time she was perhaps even better known as a basketball player, a sport which she later played professionally.

Personal Best: DT – 40.56 (1932).
