Biography

Jan Svendsen was a weight thrower who competed for UCLA and Wilt’s Athletic Club, sponsored by Wilt Chamberlain. She competed at the 1975 Pan American Games in the discus, placing fifth, and also represented the US four times in international dual meets. Svendsen won the AAU indoors in 1973 in the shot put. She started weightlifting in the early 1970s to train for weight throws, became interested in its benefits, and is now a fitness director.
