Biography

Jeff Bannister competed for the University of New Hampshire and the Decathlon Club. He played basketball at UNH where he was a high-scoring forward. He was AAU pentathlon champion in 1966 and in the decathlon, finished 3rd in the 1969 AAU and 2nd in 1972 at that meet. In his era, there was no NCAA decathlon so he qualified in1969 for the 400 hurdles. Bannister won the 1972 Olympic Trials in the decathlon. His other decathlon wins came at the Boston College Relays in 1967-68, the US Track & Field Federation East Meet in 1969-70, the Southern Pacific AAU in 1971, and the Maine AAU Meet in 1967.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.4 (1970); 400 – 46.8 (1972); 1500 – 4:10.4 (1972); 110H – 14.4 (1970); HJ – 1.98 (6-6) (1972); LJ – 7.35 (24-1½) (1972); Dec – 7981 (1972).
