Biography

Robert Cannon had a long, consistent career as a triple jumper, but usually never quite made it to the top of the podium. He won one national title, that in 1982, but placed in the top eight 14 times at US Championships and Olympic Trials between 1979 and 1992. In addition to his 1988 Olympic appearance, Cannon competed internationally at the 1991 Pan American Games, placing sixth. He competed for Indiana University, finishing third in the NCAA Meet in 1978 and 1979. Cannon was world ranked once in the top 10, as #8 in 1982; however, between 1978-96, he ranked in the US top 10 fifteen times, with high rankings of #2 in 1982 and #3 in 1981.
