Biography

Rob Muzzio was a decathlete who represented the United States multiple times in international competition. Muzzio went to school at George Mason University, winning the NCAA title in 1984-85, the first person to repeat as NCAA decathlon champion. After a year out with injury, he then finished second at the NCAA Meet in 1987.

Muzzio made the US Olympic team in 1992 by finishing third at the Olympic Trials and placed fifth at the Barcelona Olympics. He also competed at the World Championships in 1987, 1991, and 1993, with a best finish of eighth in 1993. Muzzio was runner-up at the US Championships in 1987, and then placed third at the US meet in 1991-93, with the 1992 meet doubling as the Olympic Trials. He later became a track & field coach, specializing in the pole vault.
