Biography

Darrin Plab was a high jumper who competed at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics for the United States. His father, Terry Plab, played minor league baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Darrin loved baseball and played in youth leagues. Plab attended college briefly at the University of Illinois but then transferred to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Although his first sport was basketball, he eventually won the NCAA high jump twice while at Southern Illinois – 1991-92. His only podium finish at the USA nationals was when he finished second at the 1992 US Olympic Trials, which doubled as the national championship that year. Plab later settled in his hometown of Mascoutah, Illinois, where he ran a landscaping business.
