Biography

In 1906, Tullio Camillotti became the first Italian weightlifter to win a medal in a major international competition. His success came at the Intercalated Olympic Games at Athens when he won the silver medal in the unlimited one-handed competition in which the lifter had to successfully complete each lift with, firstly the right hand, and then the left. Camillotti lifted the same weight as the gold medallist, Josef Steinbach of Austria (73.75 kg) but, because Steinbach successfully lifted 76.55 kg with one of his two lifts, he took first place.
