Biography

Orlando “Papito” Stewart pitched for the Netherlands at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. A native of Curaçao of the former Netherlands Antilles, Stewart played for the Santa Rosa Indians on Curaçao in 1981-85, and then played for 15 seasons (1986-92, 1996-2004) in the Dutch major league. In the Netherlands Stewart played first for the Almere Giants and then was with Sparta-Feyenoord until 2001, when he moved to ADO. Stewart struck out 1,238 batters in 257 games and led the league in strikeouts in 1990 and 1997. He later became a coach, working with the pitchers at Sparta-Feyenoord from 2007, and in 2018 he became the head coach of UVV Utrecht.
