Alpine skier Heini Bierling did not qualify for the slalom final at the 1952 Winter Games in Oslo. He was allowed one run only in accordance with § 142 of the ISF rules. Bierling was involved in a tragic accident whilst training for the 1967 Munich Ski Championships. The accident left him paralysed and three weeks later he died at the age of just 36.
