Jean-Marie Bourgeois competed in Nordic combined at the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics. He learned to ski in the trails around the Combette, where his family had a farm. Joining the national team, he also worked as a gendarme at the École militaire de haute montagne (EMHM – Military High Mountain School). Bourgeois later returned to La Combette in 1977, when his career ended, where he taught young skiers, including his daughter Célia Bourgeois, who competed in cross-country skiing at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
